Burned Into Your Mind

A song can have a way of getting burned into our minds. There, it can help us through dark times, lifting us up when we need it. It can elevate the good times with a cheerful melody. It can cause us to burst into song and/or dance. Or maybe it’s just a subtle annoyance we can’t get rid of!

To create this series of images, I set a lit candle on a record and photographed it with a long exposure to collect the movement as it spun. Throughout several of the exposures, I nudged the candle and the needle closer to the center.

The first image in this series was selected to the "Music & Memory" group art exhibition at the NOTO Arts Center in March and April of 2025.
